Wrinkle Reduction and Wrinkle Treatment
It is a quick, safe and highly effective way to markedly decrease wrinkles and is FDA-approved. These include the annoying wrinkles between the eyebrows (anger lines), on the forehead, around the eyes (squint lines), and even on the neck. These wrinkles are caused by a combination of aging, sunlight and muscle action. We can improve some of the effects of aging with products such as alpha-hydroxy acid, Glycolic peels or Micro-Dermabrasion and Super IPL system treatments.
A few drops are injected with a tiny needle into the muscle that creates a wrinkle, not the wrinkle itself. When the solution is injected into a muscle, it blocks the nerve impulse from reaching that area, and as a result, the muscle weakens. As the muscle weakens, the skin overlying the muscle relaxes and the wrinkles in the skin gradually soften and often disappear.
Because there is no sedative or anesthetic used, patients can return to normal activities immediately after the procedure and there are no side effects.
Dynamic wrinkles, such as crow’s feet, frown lines and forehead wrinkles are due to repetitive facial expression. Weakening the muscles responsible for these facial expressions can dramatically improve these wrinkles.
Treatment Information:
What To Expect At Your Appointment
A micro-needle will be injected into the muscle(s) that your individual needs require. The most requested areas of treatment and complaint are the forehead and outer eye area. One to five injections are usually given per muscle.
It may take approximately 30 minutes to complete an average amount of injections during your visit. Many surgeons advise that patients report very little pain or discomfort associated with the injections due the size of the micro-needle, but you will feel at least some discomfort due to the injection. It has been described as a feeling of great “pressure”. After your treatment, you will usually see the effects within a few hours to three days. Care must be taken in restricting the amount of muscle movements in the treatment area while it “settles in”.
Botulinum neurotoxin type A blocks the conduction of impulse to the muscle and the sweat gland, the toxin produces chemical de-nervation of sweat glands and reduces local sweating. The de-nervation is reversible. Nerve endings recover over three or more months during which muscle tone increases and glandular secretion recommences.
Simply, BTa relaxes muscle of expression and make the skin look much less wrinkly and fresh.
In The Weeks Ahead
Maximum benefit is reached in one to two weeks. The effects last approximately three months thereafter from a single treatment of wrinkle correction injections, resulting in the smoothing of your skin and the improvement of fine lines and superficial wrinkles in the area of your treatment. When the effects start wearing off, you will notice a very gradual fading of its effects. At this point, you will return for your next treatment.
Risks, Complications & Contraindications
Adverse events tend to occur 1–2 weeks after injection and are usually transient. Localized pain, tenderness or bruising may be associated with the injection and rarely droopy eyelid and droopy eye brow but given its unique mechanism of action, the wrinkle correction injection that we are using offers sustained relief, dose after dose.
As far as long-term effects are concerned, these treatments can typically be repeated indefinitely. However, if you are pregnant or taking certain medications, you are not eligible to receive this cosmetic treatment. It’s effects may be increased with the use of certain antibiotics or other drugs that interfere with neuromuscular transmission. Be sure to disclose any and all pre-existing medical conditions and all medications you may be currently taking before undergoing any treatment.
Warning: Pregnant women must not receive anti-wrinkle injections as they are harmful to the placenta.
The wrinkle correction injection may cause temporary headaches, hematoma (a mass of usually clotted blood that forms in a tissue, organ, or body space as a result of a broken blood vessel), ectropion (an abnormal turning out of a part such as an eyelid), diplopia (a disorder of vision in which two images of a single object are seen because of unequal action of the eye muscles, also called double vision), bruising, and temporary eyelid ptosis. However, local injections of antibiotics have been shown to reduce paralysis in some patients.

BX may cause temporary headaches, hematoma [: a mass of usu. clotted blood that forms in a tissue, organ, or body space as a result of a broken blood vessel], ectropion [: an abnormal turning out of a part (as an eyelid)], diplopia [: a disorder of vision in which two images of a single object are seen because of unequal action of the eye muscles -- called also double vision], bruising, and temporary eyelid ptosis. However local injections of antibiotics have been shown to reduce paralysis in some patients.
What It Is Used For:
Other than for its originally intended purpose, treatment of blepharospasm (eye spasm) and strabismus (misalignment of the eye) this product has cosmetic applications as well. This anti-wrinkle injection was approved in 2002 for cosmetic applications to improve the look of fine lines and superficial wrinkles caused from every day facial expressions like smiling, frowning or squinting by prohibiting these movements.
If you find that the early signs of ageing are becoming apparent or if your facial expressions are causing premature wrinkles to appear, then this procedure may be for you. It is also used in the prevention or smoothing of wrinkles as well, by prohibiting you from making the facial gestures that cause wrinkles.
If your wrinkles are static then it may lessen them a bit. However, if your wrinkles are superficial it can smooth them considerably, so that it appears that they have been “removed”.
How It Works:
Normally, your brain sends electrical messages to your muscles so that they can contract and move. The electrical message is transmitted to the muscle by a substance called acetylcholine. This particular anti-wrinkle injection works to block the release of acetylcholine and, as a result, the muscle does not receive the message to contract. This means that the muscle spasms or movements that cause wrinkling, stop or are greatly reduced after using it. Patients sometimes refer to the effects of the injection to their area of treatment as being “paralyzed”.
